Pery Francisco Assis Shikida, Carlos Alberto Gonçalves Junior

Abstract

The current paper has analyzed, by the Logit model, the determinants of criminal recidivism of defendants already found guilty by economic crimes at the Piraquara Prison Complex (Parana). As result, for the recidivists, crime pays more than licit work, with accentuated frequency for theft (66 times greater chance of recidivism), drug traffic (7,9 times greater chance of recidivism) and robbery (6,2 times greater chance of recidivism). The general context of the analyzed variables makes it possible to affirm that the criminal recidivist heads the efforts and part of the time to an illicit activity aiming for the pecuniary success of the action, not relapsing under low returns chance. Recovering the family and school foundations of the person, pari passu the strengthening of police, justice and state institutions, are factors which will contribute to the reduction of criminal recidivism.
