For the Horror of Revange: Stylizations of Violence in Park Chan-wook's Revenge Trilogy

Abstract

The aim of this text is to analyze stylistic marks regarding violence in the films of Park Chan-wook's Revenge Trilogy. In dialogue with Ivana Bentes in her conception of the aesthetics of violence and with Mariana Souto's method of analysis of the filmic constellation, three stylistic modes are mapped: Zeniths of Impotence, Fatalistic Detailing and Perplexing Pauses. Their articulation, present in the three films, outlines an aesthetic-discursive project of the director in order to produce horror of revenge.
