The study compared the aerobic training intensities zones suggested by the ACSM using values of heart rate (HR) and oxygen uptake (VO2) at the anaerobic threshold (AT) and at the respiratory compensation point (RCP). After the cardiopulmonary exercise test was identified the HR and the VO2 at the AT and at the PCR (HRAT, VO2AT, HRRCP and VO2RCP), and was calculated the VO2 at 60 and 85% of the VO2peak (VO260P and VO285P) and the 60 and 85% of the maximum estimated oxygen uptake (VO260E and VO285P) and the HR at 77 and 90% of the maximum HR (HR77M and HR90M) and of the maximum estimated HR (HR77E and HR90E). The t-test for dependent groups was applied and the level of significance accepted was p<0.05. The HRmaxE was 8.9% higher (p<0.05) than the HRAT and 5.0% higher (p<0.05) than the HR77M. The VO2AT was 44.8% lower (p<0.05) than VO2 the 60% of the VO2maxE (VO260E) and 25.9% lower (p<0.05) than VO2 the 60% of the VO2 peak (VO260P). The VO285E was 21.9% higher (p<0.05) than VO2RCP and 25.4% higher than VO285P. In conclusion, both lower and upper limits of aerobic exercise prescription, using the indirect way, as suggested by the ACSM, with HR and the VO2 tends to overestimate the aerobic exercises intensity compared to HR and VO2 at AT and at RCP. Key words: cardiopulmonary exercise test, heart rate, oxygen uptake, respiratory compensantion point, anaerobic threshold.Downloads
