Abstract

O artigo investiga a cobertura, a desigualdade e o acesso à justiça no Brasil por meio do índice de oportunidade no acesso ao Judiciário (IOAJ). A fonte de dados foi o suplemento especial correspondente à vitimização e ao acesso à justiça da PNAD 2009. Os resultados mostram que as circunstâncias individuais afetam o acesso. Logo, seria um indício de que eles não se sentem igualmente protegidos pelo sistema judiciário. Os níveis de cobertura e de oportunidade no acesso à justiça mostram-se baixos em comparação a outros serviços (água, luz e educação) e os índices são mais elevados para as regiões sul e sudeste.
