Abstract

We analyzed the activism of the Brazilian fandom of the competitive reality show Drag Race based on the participation of contestant Fontana in the Swedish version of the program. We evaluated publications on X denouncing hate attacks and xenophobia against the drag queen and the engagement of several Brazilian fans of the franchise in her defense. We collected and mapped the conversational contexts produced by the fans and found that the notions of belonging and identification were the main guiding principles of their performance.
