The representations of Dilma Rousseff by the newspaper Correio Braziliense: changes and permanence

Abstract

The objective of the article is to verify whether there was a change in the way the newspaper Correio Braziliense represented Dilma Rousseff in its news between 2011/2016 (1st and 2nd terms) and 2023 (PT's return to power). The analysis focuses on the comparison between the research results exposed in the thesis “Correio Braziliense's coverage of the Dilma Rousseff governments: discrimination, delegitimization and misogyny” (2021) and a new selection of news from the daily, which comprises the first quarter 2023. From the discourse analysis, a great similarity was noticed between the first discursive matrices and the current ones, revealing the permanence of sexist and misogynistic representation on the part of the diary.
