Management of Intellectual Capital in Public Safety: an integrative study

Abstract

This study investigates the management of Intellectual Capital in Public Security, with a focus on Intelligence units. Using an integrative literature review, articles from the Scopus and Web of Science databases were analyzed to understand the application of Intellectual Capital in police operations and public administration. The results indicate that, although Intellectual Capital is recognized as essential for innovative and effective strategies, there is a significant gap in the literature regarding its management in Intelligence units. The study highlights that Intellectual Capital management should integrate human, structural, and social capital to address complex challenges. The research concludes that there is an urgent need to develop knowledge management strategies and practices specifically tailored to Intelligence units, in order to improve their operational and strategic effectiveness in Public Security.
