Abstract

This article analyzes the role of empathy in the forgiveness process, a theme gaining relevance in
contemporary Psychology, particularly in Positive Psychology. Forgiveness is viewed both as an
essential social skill for healthy relationships and as a complex phenomenon influenced by empathy
and altruism. The text examines forgiveness from three dimensions of disagreement: its nature
(intrapersonal or interpersonal), its outcomes (replacement of negative elements with positive
ones), and its extraordinariness (ordinary or extraordinary). It concludes that empathy plays a
crucial role in motivating forgiveness and in building conciliatory behavior.
