Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the media repercussion of the theme of military athletes in Brazil. The search was carried out
by surveying the reports in the electronic newspapers: O Globo, Estadão and Folha de São Paulo. The respective newspapers were selected
considering their significant national reach. The data referring to the repercussion of the question "military athletes" were obtained by surveying
the reports in the search engines. After conducting the data survey, the reports were exported and inserted into the NVivo software - QSR
International (version 12), so that it was possible to carry out the full analysis and systematization of the reports on emerging themes that gave
rise to the analysis categories. The total number of reports analyzed was 574. It was possible to identify the following analytical categories:
Political Aspects (n=47, f=16.21%), Military Events and Athletes (n=32, f=11.03%), Financial Support from Military Athletes (n=10,
f=3.45%), the Continence Act (n=8, f=2.76%), Sports Facilities (n=6, f=2.07%), Financial Investments (n=3, f=1.03%) and, Other Matters
(n=184, f=63.45%). There was a predominance of reports related to the political aspect and issues related to party positions, characterizing a
certain polarization of opinions about the military. In addition, it can be seen that public policies developed through partnerships between the
military and sports spheres have increased the impact on military athletes, with the High-Performance Athletes Program (PAAR) and the
continence of athletes contemplated as the main subject highlighted. Finally, one can see reports related to the financial support provided to
athletes, seen as a positive aspect in Brazilian sports policy.
