INFLUENCE OF CHRONIC FLEXIBILITY TRAINING ON ISOKINETIC VARIABLES: A RANDOMIZED CLINICAL TRIAL

In recent years, many studies have been carried out with the aim of proving the effectiveness of acute stretching protocols on the
motor skills of muscle strength and power, however their chronic effects have not yet been fully elucidated in the literature. The aim of the
present study was to verify the influence of a chronic static active stretching protocol of the quadriceps and hamstring muscles on flexibility
and isokinetic variables of strength and power in adult bodybuilders for 12 weeks. This is a randomized clinical trial (opinion number:
2,697,277), in which the sample was composed of 20 male adults, practitioners of weight training for at least three months. Participants were
assessed for weight and height, knee joint muscle strength (using a Biodex Multi-Joint Pro isokinetic dynamometer), flexibility test and body
composition assessment. The intervention was applied after the performance of muscle training and consisted of an active static stretching
program for the hamstring and quadriceps muscles, after strength training, for a period of 12 weeks. An increase was observed for all flexibility
variables in the intervention group, in addition to promoting a significant increase in the peak torque variables of the dominant and nondominant limb in the extension and power of the dominant and non-dominant limb in the extension and of the dominant limb in bending. It is
concluded that the stretching exercises were beneficial for flexibility gain, in addition to finding an improvement in the isokinetic variables of
the intervention group in the dominant and non-dominant limbs in relation to the control group.
