ADHERENCE TO THE TEACHING CAREER IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION: FROM CHOICE TO ABANDONMENT

Abstract

Social, personal, family or pedagogical aspects contribute to the individual's choice and permanence in a particular profession. In
the investigative scenario, it is observed that research has not fully contemplated the analysis of adherence to the teaching career of Physical
Education, under aspects related to the choice, permanence and abandonment of public teaching, in addition to not contemplating the analysis
of different administrative spheres, state, federal and municipal in a single study. In this sense, the objective of this study was to analyze
adherence to the teaching career, considering the reasons for choosing, staying and abandoning Physical Education teachers, working in the
public education network in the city of Florianopolis, Santa Catarina. 13 effective Physical Education teachers participated, with more than 20
years of professional experience. For data collection, semi-structured interviews were used and the qualitative investigation technique Interview
Transcription Categorization and Interpretation was used to analyze the information. The information obtained revealed that the main intrinsic
and extrinsic motivation for choosing the profession was the taste for sports and the influence of third parties, respectively. The permanence
in the career was motivated by the pleasure acquired in working at the school, the experience in teaching Physical Education, the effectiveness
and professional stability. In general, Physical Education teachers reported that they never felt the full desire to abandon the teaching career. It
was concluded that the sport was decisive for the choice of profession, but the permanence in the intervention context was determined by the
feeling of accomplishment and pleasure with the career of school teaching.
