EFFECTS OF CONCURRENT TRAINING AND INTERMITTENT FASTING ON MORPHOLOGICAL AND METABOLIC ASPECTS OF SKELETAL MUSCLE OF WISTAR RATS

Abstract

To evaluate the morphological and metabolic indicators of Wistar rats under the practice of concurrent training (TCc) and
intermittent fasting (JI). This is an experimental study, 39 adults male Wistar rats were used. The rats were divided into four groups: control
(C [n=12]), fasting control (CJ [n=11]), training (T [n=8]) and fasting training (TJ [n=8]). The critical load test was performed to evaluate and
determine the intensity of effort in aerobic training (AT) (swimming). The resistance training protocol (RT) (anaerobic) consisted of four series
of 10 jumps, with an overload corresponding to 50% of the body weight of each animal. Thus, the TCc was composed of an AT and TR
protocol. The JI period lasted 12/12 hours, starting at 9:00 pm and ending at 9:00 am. The training period consisted of 4 weeks. At the end of
the experiment, analyzes of food consumption, adipose tissue weighing and gastrocnemius muscle morphometry were performed. Data analysis
was performed using the tests: Shapiro-Wilk; Anova; Tukey and Kruskal-Wallis post-test with Dunn post-test. All procedures assumed a 5%
error (p<0.05). At the end of the experiment, it was possible to observe that the animals in the TJ group had lower values for the variable
Visceral Fat and food consumption. It was also found that all treated groups demonstrate increased gastrocnemius muscle cross-sectional area.
It is concluded that the training performed in isolation showed a greater increase in myocyte when compared to the other experimental groups.
In addition, it was possible to verify that the animals in the CJ group ingested a greater amount of feed and the TJ group had lower values for
the variable body mass and adipose tissue.
