Abstract

In Brazil, Men's Artistic Gymnastics has been gaining more visibility on the national and international sporting scene due to the latest relevant achievements of Brazilian gymnasts in the Olympic Games and world championships. Given this scenario, the objective of this work was to describe and analyze the process of sports training in Men's Artistic Gymnastics at a recognized institution within the country, and which has been gaining prominence in all categories in the sport, with significant results such as the first Olympic medal in this discipline, whose gymnast spent all his training at this institution. Data collection was carried out through semistructured interviews with three men coaches who form all categories of the institution. Data processing was carried out using the content analysis technique, which originated themes related to four areas: (i) Organization; (ii) Talent selection; (iii) Training planning system; (iv) School and Family. Regarding the organization of the institution (i), we note that the club is maintained by public funds and has support from the Parents Association (AGITH), which provides essential resources for the physical and human infrastructure of the gym and maintenance of the club. Talent selection (ii) takes place through two selection tests per year, which provides new opportunities for talents not yet present. The training planning system (iii) was the most important point for
the success of the training work, with its division into stages. In School and Family (iv) the direct participation of
parents in the work carried out in the institution as it is partially supported by them. In addition to the directions
to obtain the results that the club achieved, we believe that this study could shed light on new possibilities and research on the training of gymnasts and, mainly, elucidate the importance of basic training for the development of future gymnasts for high performance.
