Resumo

The objective of this work was to determine the effects of combined exercise training on the left ventricle (LV) weight, wall thickness and cavity dimension in rats. One group of rats were submitted to this type of exercise. Exercise training was performed 7 times weekly for 8 weeks. A sedentary control group (C) was included. The values of the LV weight increased 7.5% in the combined exercise training group (RA) (P < 0.05), compared with the C group and the LV wall thickness increased 8% in the RA group, (P<0.05), compared with C group. The LV internal diameter had an increase of 9% in RA group (P < 0.05), when compared to the C group. Conclusion: LV wall adapt to combined aerobic and resistance training by changing their parameters in a different way of that promoted by either, aerobic or resistance training alone.
