Management and Auditing at the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal Rural University of Semi-Arid: Proposal and Prototyping of a Management Information System

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to propose the implementation of an electronic medical records system integrated with an auditing module for the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal Rural University of Semi-Arid (UFERSA), with the goal of improving hospital management and reducing or eliminating hospital claim denials through greater transparency and control of financial transactions. Methodology: The system development followed a structured process, starting with an analysis of the challenges faced by the institution in hospital management and auditing. Subsequently, the essential functionalities were defined, the application was modeled, the most suitable technologies were selected, and initial prototypes were developed, covering the main system interfaces. Results: So far, key application screens have been created, including the veterinarian’s homepage, the electronic medical record, the auditing interface, and the procedure registration screen. Preliminary results indicate that the proposed solution has the potential to optimize the auditing process and contribute to the reduction of hospital claim denials. Practical/Managerial Implications: The adoption of the system can bring significant benefits to hospital management by ensuring greater data integrity, optimizing internal processes, and supporting decision-making, as well as strengthening the integration between clinical and administrative sectors. Social Implications: Improving hospital management efficiency and reducing financial losses are likely to increase service capacity and quality, directly benefiting patients, pet owners, and the academic community associated with the hospital.
