The aim of this research is the cross-cultural adaptation and assessment of the first validity evidence based on the internal
structure and reliability of the Mental Energy Scale (MES), Internal Extensive Attention Scale (IEAS) and External Extensive
Attention Scale (EEAE). These instruments are part of the Multidimensional Inventory of Sports Excellence (MUSI), a battery of
measures that assess different psychological skills associated with sports performance. The sample consisted of 144 practitioners of
different sports, at different competitive levels, with ages ranging from 14 to 51 years old (25.16 ± 7.43, 77.1% men). The ba cktranslation procedure was employed. The adequacy of the adaptations was verified through the content validity coefficients (CVC).
Parallel Analysis (PA), Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and internal consistency indicators were employed to assess the
instruments' internal structure and reliability. The analysis of experts indicated the theoretical and practical relevance, clarity, and
adequacy of the language of the items that constituted the respective scales. PA and EFA indicated a unidimensional structure for each
of the three independent measures, corroborating the theoretical hypotheses that based the construction of the instruments. Good
precision indicators were observed, with Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega coefficients equal to 0.864 (EES), 0.839 and 0.842
(EEAE) and 0.873 and 0.878 (IEAS). There was a significant positive correlation between mental energy and diffuse external attention,
and between mental energy and age, as well as a significant negative correlation between diffuse internal attention and age. Such
results indicate that, with increasing age, athletes show greater capacity to handle external information to achieve their goals in sport,
as well as being less affected by negative feelings and thoughts during practice. It is suggested the adequacy of the instruments
regarding the assessment of the target constructs in the Brazilian sports context.
