Abstract

For an effective control of the load intensity in a training program, scales such as the rate of perceived exertion (RPE) are valuable tools. Therefore, this research aimed to verify the possible differences in the RPE result, when the training loads were not visualized, at the expense of the previous visualization of the loads, obtained with the knowledge of the stipulated weight, in 20 bodybuilders with average life of 32.3 ± 6.5 years, 10 of which male and 10 female, in a gym in Curitiba. To evaluate the PSE of two individuals during the performance of two biceps curl (RB) and leg extension (EP) exercises, they were used on an OMNI-RES scale The loads used were 8 RM (maximum resistance), both in the first step, where the individuals were not aware of the load, as they did not see it, and in the second step, where the participants could have visual access to the amount of weight to be won. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality criteria as a reference, with a significance of 5%. For the comparison between the two phases of the test, the dependent student (t) test was used. We concluded that men and women obtained a higher response rating, only when comparing the PSE, without deprivation, for the EP, which is responsible for causing a greater psychological impact on the individual during practice, when comparing the two phases of the test.
