THE INFLUENCE OF REGULAR PRACTICE OF KUNDALINI YOGA UPON FUNTIONAL VARIABLES OF INDIVIDUALS WITH FIBROMYALGIA SYNDROME

Abstract

This study had the objective of verifving the influence of Kundalini Yoga practice upon health condition, physical fitness and upon state and trace anxiety levels in women with Fibromyalgia Syndrome that is a rheumatic disease characterized by diffuse muscle pain, specific pain sites, associated frequently to sleeping disosders, fatigue, chronic headache, anxiety, depression and stress. Methods: The study group was composed by 7 women with Fibromyalgia, that didn’t practice Yoga, with a mean age of 52,6 years old. The health condition, physical fitness and trace-anxiety were evaluated before and after 8 weeks of practice, with these instruments, respectively Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire, Walking Test and a Trace Anxiety Questionnaire. The variable state-anxiety was verified with a State- Anxiety Questionnaire, one time a week before and after the Kundalini Yoga session. Results: With the statistical analysis done through the Wilcoxon Test, the results of the study showed, for a p<0,05, that there was a significant diffrence upon the variables helath condition, trace-anxiety and state anxiety, and there was no statistically significant difference upon the physical fitness.
