Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement

The Revista Brasileira de Economia de Empresas/Brazilian Journal of Business Economics (RBEE) and its publishing organization, the Masters and Doctorate in Economics at the Catholic University of Brasília elaborate this ‘Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement’ in line with the COPE (Commission on Publication Ethics) for Journal Editors, Referees, and Authors.

Basic Principles

Falsification or fabrication of data, plagiarism, including duplicate publication of the authors’ own work, copying without proper citation, and misappropriation of own or other’s work are all unacceptable practices. Any cases of ethical misconduct are treated seriously and will be dealt with by the publisher and editors in accordance with the COPE guidelines.

Editors’ duties

The editorial board is composed of recognized experts in economics and related fields. Full names and affiliations of the members of editorial board are disclosed on the journal webpage. None of the editors are remunerated for their work and none of the editors have a financial interest in the publication and selection process of papers.

The editor is guided by the policies of the journal’s editorial board and constrained by legal requirements, copyright infringement and plagiarism.

Editors should evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors. The editors’ decision to accept or reject a paper for publication should be based only on the paper’s importance, originality and clarity, and the study´s relevance to the aim of journal.

The editor will exchange thoughts with other editors or reviewers in making the final decision.

The editor is be responsible for deciding whether an article will be sent out for review.

The editors’ decision about the publication or non-publication is final. Editors and any editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher’s staff. Editors will ensure that material submitted remains confidential while under review.

Duties and responsibilities of authors

No fees or charges are required from authors for manuscript processing. Authors pay neither submission nor publication fee.

The journal is freely available online. Authors are required to agree with this open access policy which enables unrestricted access and reuse of all published articles. The articles are published under the Creative Commons copyright license policy CC-BY. Users are allowed to copy and redistribute the material in printed or electronic format and build upon the material, without further permission or fees being required.

Authors of papers should present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the paper. A paper should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behaviour and are unacceptable.

Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Where there are others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project, they should be acknowledged or listed as contributors. The corresponding author should ensure that all appropriate co-authors and no inappropriate co-authors are included on the paper, and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication.

All authors should disclose in their manuscript any financial or other substantive conflict of interest that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.

Where authors use generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process, authors should only use these technologies to improve readability and language. Applying the technology should be done with human oversight and control, and authors should carefully review and edit the result. AI-assisted technologies should not be listed as an author or co-author, or be cited as an author. Authorship implies responsibilities and tasks that can only be attributed to and performed by humans. Authors should disclose in their manuscript the use of AI-assisted technologies in the writing process and a corresponding statement will appear in the published work. Please note that authors are ultimately responsible and accountable for the contents of the work.

Duties and responsibilities of reviewers

Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse himself from the review process.

Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.

Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.

Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument not previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation. The reviewer should also alert the editor when substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper is detected.

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

Copyright and Licensing

The submission of a manuscript authorizes its publication by the Brazilian Journal of Business Economics/Revista Brasileira de Economia de Empresas and implies that it refers to original work, which is not currently submitted to any other journal. It is forbidden any reproduction, partial or total, by any other media, either press or digital, of the published papers. In this case, previous and necessary authorization must be requested. In case it is obtained, one must include a formal acknowledgement to the BJBE/RBEE, which is the first publisher of the paper. The BJBE/RBEE does not pay any copyright to the authors of published papers.

The copyrighter of the BJBE/RBEE is the Editora Universa of the Universidade Católica de Brasília.
