The health production function in Ceará: a Grossman model approach

Abstract

This study investigates the determinants of health among residents of Ceará, Brazil, based on a Health Demand Model. Secondary data from the 2019 National Health Survey (PNS) and the Probit model were used to estimate the health production function. The results reveal a negative relationship between seeking health information online and individuals' self-assessment of health, as well as the daily smoking habit. Non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs) emerged as significant adverse factors in health perception. These findings raise concerns about the reliability of health information available on the internet. Furthermore, the study highlights the need for public policies in Ceará aimed at promoting healthy habits and implementing actions for early diagnosis of NCDs to improve the well-being of affected individuals.
