The main purpose is to test, in the case of the Mexican economy, the tourism-led growth hypothesis and the relationship between private consumption and tourism arrivals. Toda and Yamamoto´s (1995) based on the Gunduz and Hatemi-J (2005) proposal and the Liu, Song and Romilly (1997) time series procedures were applied. The findings support the tourism-led growth hypothesis in the Mexican case. Moreover as an additional contribution, a bi-directional and long-run relationship was found between tourism arrivals and private consumption, establishing the notion regarding the possibility to provide economic benefits to the Mexican population.
