Resumo

We develop an OLG model of a small-open economy (SOE) subjected to volatile international interest rates to study how different degrees of capitalization in the social security (SS) system may affect the dispersion of income histories across generations. Given some simplifying assumptions, weshow that retirees and workers are affected in opposite directions by international shocks, and that alternative SS arrangements can play a role in lessening the dispersion of income across generations by affecting the exposure of agents to agespecificrisks.
