A portrait of telejournalism in Bahia: Different versions of racism

Abstract

This article analyzes racial representation in telejournalism in Bahia, a state with 81.1% of blacks and the largest black population in Brazil. It is intended to answer to what extent does whiteness contribute to the maintenance of racism in television journalism? Based on structured interviews, the theoretical foundations have Cardoso (2020), Kilomba (2019) and Sodré (2022). The study reaffirms the spaces of privilege destined to the white race and reveals practices of racism in telejournalism in Bahia.
