Research trends in Communication and Race Relations in Brazil: analysis of production in scientific Communication events (2022-2023)

Abstract

This article discusses the scientific production on Communication and Racial Relations in Brazil, based on the analysis of the papers published in the Annals of four national scientific events in the field of communication, namely: 45th National Congress of Intercom (2022), IX Meeting of Ulepicc-Brazil (2022), X Congress of Compolítica (2023) and 32nd Annual Meeting of Compós (2023). The choice of this corpus is justified by the fact that these four associations have created, in recent years, specific groups to host works on the relationship between communication and racial issues. In methodological terms, the article was produced from a bibliographic review on epistemicide, and particularly its expressions in communication, a systematic mapping and a content analysis, with the aim of identifying research trends. It is concluded that there is an ongoing process of consolidation of the articulated production of studies on communication and race relations in Brazil, as a result of both the mobilization of researchers from the African diaspora and the affirmative policies of access to undergraduate and, more recently, graduate studies in public educational institutions in the country.
