THE FREUDIAN UNKNOWN AND ITS POLITICAL REVERBERATIONS IN THE EXTREME RIGHT

Abstract

The present approach unites studies of extreme right-wing troll language with discursive semiotics, including an investigation of the Freudian concept of the uncanny, examining how the extreme right seeks to empty the signs of the progressive field through the strategy of aesthetic-discursive inversion. The uncanny operates, in these cases, based on the imitative regime, but introducing an aspect of invention into the imitation, creating an anti-system discursive effect. Without understanding such strategies (their disturbing similarity), it is difficult to deconstruct them in social practice.

Author Biographies

Jose Luiz Aidar Prado, PUC-SP

 

José Luiz Aidar Prado is a psychoanalyst and professor at the Postgraduate Studies Program in Communication and Semiotics at PUC-SP. He is a senior researcher at CNPq. He was editor of Galáxia magazine and is currently its advisory editor. He published "Biopolitical Convocations of Communication Devices" and "Habermas with Lacan". He is co-author of "Symptom and fantasy in communicational capitalism" and "Network communication in the decade of hate".  He graduated in Philosophy from the University of São Paulo with a doctorate from PUC-SP. Coordinated the research project The invention of the Other in the weekly media - construction of a hypermedia database and Visibility regimes in magazines. He was a member of evaluation committees in the Communication area at CAPES and CNPq. He was vice-president of Compós.
