The article analyzes how the ideal of authenticity is mobilized by far-right politicians. To this end, we discuss the relationship between media, authenticity and politics. Based on this theoretical framework, we analyzed journalistic articles that articulate the idea that Jair Bolsonaro is authentic. The empirical analysis allows us to understand the dimensions of authenticity associated with the former president. It stands out how the notion of being true to oneself allows the normalization of expressions of hatred and violence.
