The paper aims to investigate the motivations that support the recurring criticism of the player Neymar Jr in the press. News were selected considering two notable and controversial events involving the athlete in 2023: his transfer to Saudi Arabia and the betrayal of the mother of his second daughter, the influencer Bruna Biancardi. The theoretical contribution is formed, primarily, by discursive typologies that are very widespread in our society. At the end of the analysis, we dedicate ourselves to identifying which discourses support the narratives that attribute a certain negativity to the image of the Brazilian football team forward.
